Led by Artistic Director Kelly Howard, our orchestra programs give young musicians ages 6–18 the opportunity to grow as individual players and as part of an ensemble. Through weekly rehearsals, sectional coaching, and dynamic performances, students build confidence, deepen their skills, and experience the joy of making music together.
We offer three orchestras based on experience and ability:
-
Prelude – Introduction to ensemble playing, sight reading, and conductor cues
-
Overture – Skill-building through deeper listening and ensemble work
-
Sinfonia – Advanced repertoire with complex rhythms, harmonies, and styles
All students participate in 2–3 concerts per season and may be involved in special collaborations with artists and organizations across New York City.
We strive for a balance of musical rigor and community to create an environment where students feel supported, inspired, and proud of what they create together.
Enrollment in our after-school music ensemble programs means a commitment to attend and actively participate in all rehearsals and concerts, as well as daily practice on the music assigned. In addition to pre-scheduled auditions, we do accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year when there are available seats. Our Summer Camp, which takes place for 2 weeks in July, is a separate registration process, with no audition.
